Raid on Bungeling Bay  Brøderbund;Hudson Soft (Hudson Soft)1985On a tiny, remote planet, the evil Bungeling Empire is creating an awesome war machine. Civilization as we know it seems doomed. One faint hope remains. A single highly mobile raider might be able to carry out a surgical strike to the heart of The War Machine. Only a fighter pilot of enormous skill and courage could hope to neutralize all six Bungeling islands. Even as you strike at one island, robots repair the damage you've done, attacking again and again with a savage arsenal of destruction. Who could possibly succeed? Who else but you?
- Realistic helicraft controls
- 360° scrolling screen
- 5 increasing levels of challenge***No visual confirmation of UPC: 7-55030-01223-2***Start with your helicopter from an aircraft carrier and fly and destroy several factories located on islands. Defend yourself against missiles enemy aircraft and ground attacks. The overhead view graphics show the game's age, they are plain and undetailed. Gameplay on the other hand is complex enough to motivate for a few tries.

Sky Destroyer  Taito (Home Data)1985Sky Destroyer is a pseudo-3D third-person shooter in a second world war environment. Gameplay is similar to [game=#16657]After Burner[/game]. Of course the graphical effect is not nearly as impressive on an early 8-bit Famicom game and the landscapes mainly consist of water. Shoot down planes with your machine gun and occasionally some enemy ships with torpedoes. The game is playable and people who like this kind of shooting games will be pleased enough for a few tries. labelimageminimize
Gyrodine  Taito (Human)1986Commonly misspelled "Gyrodyne". But Box and Title screen are clear on the proper spelling "Gyrodine".***Unimpressive generic vertical scrolling shoot'em up game. You switch between shooting airborne or ground targets similar as in [game=#8480]Xevious[/game]. There is only one seemingly everlasting level and no extra weapons. Your helicopter also moves a bit too slowly and enemy projectiles a bit too fast making it a pretty hard game.*** labelimageminimize
Choplifter  Jaleco (Tose)1986Choplifter for the Famicom is a port of Sega's arcade version, which itself is an enhanced remake of the old Apple II original game Choplifter. The Famicom version features all four arcade levels. The goal is to rescue a certain amount of prisoners in each level with your helicopter. You start from a base and fly left until you come to structures or buildings which contain people. Destroying them will release the people and you can pick them up by landing near them. While flying you can shoot down hostile air and ground forces, which try to stop you. Graphics are only average and the music is on the weak side. The helicopter's controls are not the best, movements feel too slow. Despite being a (semi)-classic, the game didn't age very well. If you want to play a good home conversion you might better try the much better Master System version, which lacks one level, but features better audiovisuals and controls. labelimageminimize
Tiger-Heli  Pony Canyon;Acclaim Entertainment (Micronics)1986

[37]***Tiger-Heli is a vertical scrolling shoot'em up arcade port. You control a helicopter and shoot everyhting in sight. The game suffers from sprite flickering. That the Famicom/NES can do much better with better programming was for example proved by Zanac, which was released at about the same time. On the other hand the game's background graphics actually resemble "realistic" landscapes and objects. You fly over towns with streets and fortified, big battleships on the sea. That is a nice variation from many other shooters of its time where the background graphics are just a conglomeration of shapes and objects. After four stages the levels eventually repeat themselves endlessly. With smoother programming this game could have been cool, but as it stands it is just an average shooter.***The Mission: Shatter the enemy defense lines and destroy the military headquarters of a war-crazed nation. The Time: Sunrise. The Place: Classified information. The Weaponry: Tiger-Heli and you. Tiger-Heli. The result of a billion-dollar defense project. The ultimate stealth helicopter. Turbine powered. Forged from ebony metal and glistening chrome. Armed with heat-seeking missiles and impact bombs. Able to fly in the stratosphere or inches above the ground. With only enough fuel to get you to the heart of the mega-fortress. Getting out is up to you. It's a last-ditch effort to halt a war-crazed nation. Fanatics sworn to overrun any country they can conquer. And, in this war, they've been winning. They have rocket firing tanks, destroyers, and weapons never seen before. You have Tiger-Heli!***Tiger Heli is the name of your helicopter, according to the box the result of a billion-dollar defense project and forged from ebony metal and glistening chrome. Your goal is to defeat the country of Cantun, which is run by terrorists and has become completely power hungry with an aim to take over the whole world.

You're shooting tanks, ships, aircraft carriers and trains while flying towards the impenetrable military base. You shoot crates to get pickups. If you shoot the crate when it is green you get a bomb pickup, if you shoot it when it is red you get a mini helicopter that attaches to one of your sides shooting sideways, and if you shoot it when it is white you get a mini helicopter shooting forward. If you shoot 10 crates with a yellow diamond shape you get an extra life.

Top Gun  Konami;Hyundai (Konami)1987***You're a High Flying Fighter Jock. The Hottest Pilot in the Heat of a Battle. The sun shimmers on the horizon as your armed-to-the-teeth Navy fighter screams from the carrier deck, accelerating into the danger zone. High above hostile waters your mission is to defend the task force from enemy attack. Suddenly, bogeys flash onto your radar. They're everywhere, diving toward you at Mach 2. Only a second to react, you go to guns and arm missiles. Your heart pounds and palms sweat as you blast into the dogfight with cannons blazing. Tracers zip past your engines. Shells shatter your senses. Now it's just you against them. And to survive you'll need more than speed and firepower. You'll need guts and instinct. You'll need to be a "TOP GUN" pilot.***

[1]***
[52]***Top Gun is pretty much an Afterburner clone despite the little change from third-person to first-person perspective and in no way a serious flight simulation. I am generally not a fan of this type of shooting game. Added to the flight action there are notoriously difficult landing sequences and tanking in mid-air sequences which have to be managed if you don't want to lose a life. For a game based on a movie its not too bad I guess, at least it was a bit better than Ocean's computer versions. But that doesn't catapult it into regions above being only an average game.***

Cobra Command  Data East1988The most advanced Cobra attack helicopter ever built is at your command! Lose your temper. Smash a skyscraper. Trash a city. Have an office building for lunch. Go on a RAMPAGE.***1 player or 2 players simultaneous cooperative.

Only George and Lizzie are included. Ralph is absent as is the three player option.
[Zerothis]***Lets start with the overall game play. You go through America's major cities smashing buildings, people, trains, bridges, police cars, helicopters, tanks, and many different cars. Sounds easy right? well, it is sort of, people will peep out of the windows and try to shoot you, and from the ground you got tanks blasting at you also, police cars, and helicopters try to stop you as well. But you can combat these annoyances by smashing them, its not hard, thats the games only problem, you also seem to get unlimited continues (I haven't ran out) making it too easy, people should have no trouble beating this game in one day. But it does have lots of replay value with the 2 player option provides hours of multiplayer fun. Other pluses in the game include bonus stages, and good graphics (compared to the NES standard). Check this game out, you probably won't be disappointed. I said it was easy, I didn't say it wasn't fun, it is. Rampage is an overall good game and I recommend it for anyone who enjoys classic games. If you used to play it in the arcade you will love this NES version. If you've played the Nintendo 64's Rampage World Tour, this one is very similar, but just has older graphics.***A classic, but the arcade version is superior of course. Who doesn't want to become giant monsters, destroy large cities and eat people to regain health? And they say that video games give kids crazy and violent ideas. Blasphemy.

Final Fantasy II  Square1988Very good RPG. Played this back when I was but a child. ^^ Up to now I still love it.***1player only
SQF-FY ファイナルファンタジーII/Final Fantasy II published 1988-12-17 by Square in Japan.
Final Fantasy II: Dark Shadow Over Palakia was going to be the title of the USA publishing.
MSRP: 6,500円

This is the second game in Square's popular Final Fantasy series. It was released only in Japan (the Japanese Final Fantasy IV was released as Final Fantasy II in the U.S.). The game emphasizes the storyline more than the first game: four young refugees from a conquered kingdom join a rebel movement in hopes of striking back at their oppressors. Players must engage in conversion collecting key words to ask key people about in order to advance the plot. Character's have identities and personalities unlike in FF1. This is emphasized by character portraits of all the player characters, the fact that there are many player characters that come and go as their role in the plot dictates, and the frequent use of player characters' names by NPC's. Familial relationships between characters are also frequently noted. The graphics aren't terribly advanced beyond FF1's, but the experience system was completely revamped. Instead of gaining EXP and levels, the heroes gain points in the abilities that they use. Attacking a lot increases strength. Getting hit a lot increases defense. Casting the Fire spell a lot increases the spell's power. Using an axe increase axe fighting ability. An interesting concept (usually reserved for computer RPGs), but one that makes for a difficult game (as long as the endemic exploits of this game's system are not utilized). A translation to English patch for the ROM is available.

This is the Final Fantasy volume that introduced Chocobos and Cid

[Zerothis]***Sequel of the successful Final Fantasy. It has a really good storyline and a new system where you have to improve abilities/skills by using them, instead of gaining XP and levels in the traditional way. Still a good RPG, but I really didn't like the way the skill system seduced you to find ways to make leveling up easier by e.g. hitting your own party members. It somehow ruined the whole pace of the game.

After Burner Tengen1989The F-14 Thundercat. It's the fastest, meanest set of wings ever to slice through the air. And you're flying it!
The action in this supercharged game is so intense, the graphics so real, you'll sweat bullets as bogeys fill the skies. Get vertigo from going vertical. The rush you feel is from pulling heavy G's as you try to evade lightning fast missiles and tracers. Feel your adrenaline pumping as your radar locks onto multiple targets and your Sidewinders blow them out of the sky.
When you feel the need for speed, go supersonic with After Burner!***This should not be confused with the JP Sunsoft version of After Burner / After Burner II. Both ports were done independently.

After Burner  Sunsoft1989This should not be confused with the US Tengen version of After Burner. Both ports were done independently. The title screen says After Burner II, while the box title obmisses the II, which was also common with homecomputer versions, because After Burner II was only a minor upgrade instead of a whole new game.***アフターバーナ is tranliteration of "after burner" and literally reads
afutaa baana
. labelimageminimize
